Electrical evidence: what to photograph and label

Clear electrical photos remove guesswork for design checks and reduce back-and-forth.

The difference between a “photo” and “evidence” is clarity: focus, framing, and a label that makes it easy to find.

1) What to photograph (where applicable)

  • Electricity meter (clear, readable)
  • Cut-out / service head area (context + close-up)
  • Consumer unit (cover on/off as required)

2) How to capture it

  • Wide shot for context, then close-up for detail
  • Avoid glare; ensure key details are readable
  • Keep the photo level and framed intentionally

3) How to label it in the pack

  • Use categories (Meter / Cut-out / Consumer unit)
  • Put the note next to the photo (not separated)
  • Flag constraints early so they aren’t missed
